Spirit of Lunar Harvests
Kagayura is a fictional deity emerging from a self-constructed mythological narrative. Goddess of the night, the moon, and guardian of Japanese grain harvests, she is said to have been born from the final breath of a priestess-shaman who danced for seven nights to summon the rain. Moved by her sacrifice, the Moon wove a new body from mist, light, and code. Since then, Kagayura walks invisibly among humans, blessing the fields at dusk.
The project materializes this mythology through an immersive installation and a series of AI-generated visual compositions. The exhibition space is designed as a contemporary shrine: a moving projection of rice grains flows gently across the floor, simulating wind-blown textures, while low-lying artificial fog drifts near the ground. A surrounding soundscape of ambient layers, filtered percussions, and nocturnal murmurs envelops the space in a ritual atmosphere.
At the heart of the installation, a video piece unfolds Kagayura’s legend — revealing scenes of prayer, lunar presence, and the silent transformation of landscapes. Visitors are invited to move slowly through the space, as if crossing the threshold of an imaginary sanctuary, where sacredness arises from attention, slowness, and suggestion.
By blending immersive technologies, generative visuals, and invented mythology, Kagayura explores how contemporary art can conjure new spiritual languages — rooted in nature, shaped by loss, and carried forward by the poetic potential of the digital.
